Today we’re hosting Day 1 of a 5-day virtual tour for Margot Finke’s new picture book, Kobi Borrows a Pouch.
This tour is sponsored by the National Writing for Children Center.
In today’s post, Margot gives some details about her background and her life as a children’s writer.
Meet Author Margot Finke
I am the wife of a wonderful husband, and the mother of three super kids, and four even MORE super grandkids.
I have always loved reading, so writing books just seemed the next step.
As a kid Down Under, I would sneak up the big mango tree in our back yard and read for hours – chores and homework forgotten!
Choosing to write rhyming picture books for children was a natural – I have always had a penchant for rhyme.
And my coming originally from Australia meant that their unique critters added to the fun of my books for the younger fry.
One of our three children had DYSLEXIA, so writing “Horatio Humble Beats the Big D” was also helpdul for many kids and their parents.
Then, I thought about the big changes kids today often face, and “Ruthie and the Hippo’s Fat Behind” was born.
I now have 11 picture books – 9 of them in rhyme, and 5 young teen adventures for older grades.
Some of my books have Aussie themes.
My goal is to HOOK kids on reading.
To do this, I give FREE Skype Author Visits to schools – anywhere their time zone fits mine in Oregon.
SKYPE flies my Magic Carpet of Books into classrooms, and I meet bunches of great students, eager to learn the secrets of how books are writen, published, etc.
I also chat with older grades about the craft of writing a book that readers will LOVE.
I also love reading from one of my own books.
Writing, Skyping with classes, and helping other writers with my Manuscript “Content” Edits, pretty much keeps me out of any other type mischief!
